Course Synopsis:
One of the key characteristics of how God deals with his people is through revival. Time and again, from Old Testament days through contemporary movements, God steps into history to bring new life to his people. Different terms are used, such as renewal, revival, or spiritual awakening; however, they all deal with God’s intervention to spiritually revive us. History also reveals that there has never been a season or movement of revival that was not preceded by a movement of prayer.
When God Shows Up is intended to help you to get a clear picture of spiritual renewal during times of revival through historical accounts and biblical teaching. Through engaging in seasons of prayer and utilizing multiple prayer guides focused on revival, we pray that it will give you a deep desire to pray earnestly and desperately for revival in your own life and in the life of your church. May the Church of Jesus Christ wake up to His presence in our midst so that His Kingdom will come in power throughout our communities, our nation and the world.

Group Participants:
Prior to each week’s lesson, please do the reading, watch the first video and spend time thinking through and answering the discussion questions. This will help you to be well-prepared when your group meets together either in person or online via Zoom (or a similar platform).
Individual Participants:
Go through the lessons at your own pace. Utilize the suggestions in the Course Tools below.

We have included a PDF file for each Lesson, as well as a PDF just for the discussion questions in case you wish to have a printed copy. To enhance your experience, we suggest you have a Bible and a journal, or something to take notes with. You will want to write down how God is speaking or teaching you throughout these lessons.
Reading:
• When God Shows Up: Essays on Revival by David Butts will be the primary text for this course. Additional reading from the Bible and other sources will also be used.
• Please note: This course does not take the chapters in sequential order, so please follow the reading assignments for each week carefully.
